IAAF announced today, on it’s the official site, the names of athletes who are candidates for the title of “Athlete of 2009″. The list contains 5 names: 3 sports are track samples (Usain Bolt, Kenenisa Bekele and Tayson Gay) and 2 in the technical evidence (Steven Hooker and Andreas Thorkildsen).

Favorite undoubtedly for this title is ‘Insane’ Usain Bolt, who at the World Championship in Berlin won three gold medals (100m, 200m, 4x100m reins of), while setting two world records (9.58 percent and 19.19 per 200).

Ethiopian Bekele  won two gold medals in the same competition at 5000 and 10,000 meters, Gay, had a fantastic year, won silver in the World Championship at 100 meters and set a fantastic performance: 9, 69 in Shanghai. Its great misfortune is the fact that he runs against  Bolt.

Australian Hooker is world champion in pole vault and the Norwegian Thorkildsen Javelin throw.

The winner of the title of athlete of the year 2009 will be announced at the World Athletics Gala to be held on November 22 in Monaco.
