Lionel Messi, FC Barcelona, received of the “Di Stefano” trophy, awarded to the best player of the year in Spain by Marca, informs AFP.
Messi received the trophy in the presence of Diego Maradona and the legend of Real Madrid, the former great player, Alfredo Di Stefano.
“I am very excited and proud to be alongside Maradona and Di Stefano I am very happy that they are the ones that give me the prize,” said Lionel Messi.
Teammates Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez and Atletico Madrid’s, Diego Forlán, were Messi contenders this year.
The previous season the trophy was awarded to Raul Gonzalez.
