I was also at Paddock Hill bend for my first race, The Race of Champions
about 9 months later, also aged 14, drawn to motor racing by Hunt’s
unbelievable title win. He won that race too, overtaking Andretti at
Druids, very similar to the British Grand Prix. My main memory is of the
whole of the ‘bowl’ up on their feet cheering like a rock concert. A
    different world.

Thanks for the upload… I can’t believe these important details were left
out of Rush! Don’t tell me Ron Howard couldn’t pay a bunch of extras to
    chant “we want Hunt”!

such a shame this race was pretty much ruined by an FIA decision after the
    race was won

There were several drivers there on that day who should have gone on to
greatness but didn’t live to see the end of the 1970′s. Gunnar Neilsson and
Tom Pryce would have certainly been in the fight for a world championship
    in the years ahead.

I was there as a 6 year old with my dad and his mates! They erected
scaffolding so we could be higher than the crowd on one of the grass banks.
I remember it well. Very exciting for a young lad!
